Institute’s objectives

• The promotion and support of basic, applied, and interdisciplinary research in the field of History (particularly social and cultural History), Culture, and Education mainly of Western Macedonia.
• The emphasis on the value of human existence and, nowadays, the degraded position of humanities studies through their twisted connection, exclusively in terms of profit and market. Therefore, first priority is given to the promotion of humanistic knowledge as a necessary tool for the construction of critical thinking, historical consciousness, democratic citizenship, and reflection.
• The close cooperation with the already existing structures of the University of Western Macedonia (see detailed in the proposed actions), as well as with domestic and foreign university institutions as well as with all the bodies of the Region of Western Macedonia that are active in the field of humanitarian research (see indicative references to the proposed actions).
• Education and training through the creation of specific programs and activities for young scientists, which will be created by the Humanities Research Institute.
• Presentation and publicize research activities, research, programs and results in the University community and society in a variety of ways.
